| Review:
Ashlyn Gere's official site is very much a homemade job, which didn't
bother us at all. Frankly, more professional pornstars should be
emulating the amateurs on the Net. Sure there may be some rough edges in
terms of design, but it's nice to know there's a real personality
involved in running the site and not some corporate team.
For those who haven't seen her in a while (and judging by how hard it
is to find anything she's done lately on the Net, that's probably most
of you), Ashlyn looks great. We would, however, like to warn her
about the effects of smoking and soaking up too many desert rays by
her pool. That's a combination sure to take it's toll in the long run.
All the material is accessed through a simple main page menu. The way
things are organized, however, is a little confusing. The good stuff,
meaning the new, exclusive stuff, is in the "Private Video
Collection" and "Gere Box." We'll get back to these. The
other sections include "My Layouts" (scans, and not very good,
of magazine sets she's done); "The Nasty Stuff" (mostly scans
again of some hardcore action, again not very good); "Friends"
(girl-girl action with Ashlyn, as well as a few individual sets; some of
this is nice, and will really appeal to Anna
Malle fans, as she seems to be one of Ashlyn's favourite people to
work with). There are also a lot of personal pics: behind-the-scenes
action, conventions, appearances, road shows, hotel rooms, vacation
pics, etc. Though this might not interest a lot of people, we really
liked it. Sure you pay for the fantasy, but it's also fun to see a
favourite performer just hanging out on a day off.
Now on to the main course.
The photo sets Ashlyn is shooting for the Gere Box are, in general,
quite good. When we visited there were about 50 of these, with some 50
pics in each. The pics are nice and big and sharp, and offer a good
variety of poses, angles, and close-ups. While professional, they are nothing fancy when it comes to props or sets. Just Ashlyn acting
sexy around her house. What was disappointing was the total
absence of boy-girl action. Has Ashlyn gone off cock? This was quite
unexpected. A bit more fetish
would also have been nice. There is one set (and video clip) of Ashlyn
with a whip, but no bondage, uniforms, peeing or stuff like that.
There are two main video sections. The first has the stuff Ashlyn is
shooting exclusively for the site. There were around 40 clips here, of only
decent quality. The content is the same as the photosets (again, no
boy-girl!). In some cases the picture was too small. There were also no
thumbnails, scene descriptions or even file sizes to help find what you
want from the menu. Room for improvement there.
The second video section is full of longer clips, some of them of
better quality (quality is inconsistent throughout the video sections), from Ashlyn's movies. Though the material isn't new, it
is quite an impressive collection for true fans. Again, however, no
attempt has been made to organize the clips. There is only a list of
links to files like "hardcore clip 7" etc. Couldn't she even
tell us the name of the movie the clip is from? For longer clips, and
especially for those on a slower connection, this can be annoying.
There are no bogus "extras" being offered. Ashlyn does keep
a diary and has a
live cam schedule, though we didn't have a chance to check it out. Updates
are occurring on a regular and frequent basis. This is sort of like a "professional
amateur" site by an established performer who does it all herself. Has a lot of good content, but needs some boy-girl
action and a bit of work on the menu pages.
