| Review:
Delta
of
Venus
is a
literary
expression
for
pussy
(delta
being
a
triangle,
Venus
being
the
god
of
love).
It's
also
the
name
of
an
erotic
novel
by
Anais
Nin
that
was
written
in
the
1940s
for
a
private
collector
but
not
published
until
after
her
death
in
the
70s
(we
looked
that
part
up
on
Wikipedia).
We
haven't
read
it.
We've
read
a
fair
bit
of
vintage
or
classic
erotica
(including
almost
all
of
the
authors
recommended
by
this
site),
but
we've
never
read
anything
by
Ms.
Nin. Anyhow,
the
point
is
that
with
a
name
like
Delta
of
Venus
this
site
it
letting
you
know
that
it
is a
collection
of
vintage
erotica.
What's
"vintage"?
The
cut-off
here
seems
to
be
1970,
which
was
just
before
porn's
take-off
into
mainstream
culture
and
"porn
chic."
Definitely
before
the
1980s
and
the
rise
of
VHS
videotapes
(remember
them?)
made
porn
a
truly
mass
media.
Back
before
the
invention
of
the
thong,
or
the
Brazilian.
Back
in
the
days
of
bush
(small
"b")
and
natural
tits. The
curator
of
this
enjoyable
site
is
"Rob,"
and
he
is
clearly
a
connoisseur
of
vintage
porn.
In
many
ways
joining
this
site
is
sort
of
like
being
able
to
browse
a
well-maintained,
personal
collection
of
golden
oldies.
The
layout
is
clean
and
easy,
with
the
following
main
sections:
The Articles - These are short-to-medium writings mixed with image galleries on the topic.
The Films - Three categories here: Early 20th Century, Mid Century, and Burlesque.
The Lit - Full length novels available for download (in pdf files) plus a handful of story excerpts and poems.
The Art - Image galleries alongside some bio information about each artist.
Image Archives - Large photo galleries categorized by subject and date. Basically, lots of sexy images to browse, plain and simple.
Other Diversions - Reading recommendations, website reviews, and other miscellanae. Breaking
this
down
a
bit,
the
pics
are
divided
into
three
subject
areas:
girl/girl,
sex,
and
bdsm.
The
date
ranges
are
1850-1920,1920-1940,and
1940-1969.
The
articles
include
brief
essays
on
early
porn,
the
founders
of
S&M,
and
even
a
history
of
dildos.
There
are
nine
full-length
novels
in
the
Lit
section.
The
Other
Diversions
includes
some
weird
audio
recordings
of
early
sex
education
stuff.
The
movies
are
all
in
QuickTime
format. Quality?
Hmmm.
As
good
as
it's
going
to
get.
Very
good
transfers
actually,
but
they
weren't
shooting
stuff
in
HD
back
in
the
1950s.
Same
goes
with
the
pics.
Porn
really
was
a
fringe
form
back
in
the
Golden
Age,
so
you're
just
not
going
to
see
the
same
production
qualities
you
get
even
in
second-rate
reality
porn
these
days.
When
you
combine
that
with
the
speed
at
which
tastes
change,
looking
at
this
stuff
really
does
start
to
seem
like
sticking
your
head
into
another
world. It's
not
a
huge
site,
but
has
quite
a
lot
of
content.
The
update
schedule
was
uncertain
though.
Which
we
guess
makes
sense
because
it's
not
like
they're
making
more
of
this
stuff.
Rob
can
only
update
when
he
tracks
down
new
material
to
add.
On
the
plus
side,
however,
the
monthly
rate
is
very
reasonable.
If
you're
at
all
interested
or
just
a
bit
curious
about
the
roots
of
porn
we
highly
recommend
it.
Some
of
the
busty
pin-up
gals
almost
qualify
as
jack-off
material
(we
would
have
loved
to
have
seen
some
Russ
Meyer
stuff,
but
we
hear
he's
incredibly
anal
about
copyright).
Otherwise,
it's
$10
well
spent
on a
site
that's
both
fun
and
educational. |
