For those of you who don't keep up on these things, Julie K. Smith is
a former Penthouse Pet (February 1993) who has appeared in a number of
silly softcore T&A movies and television shows. She's been online
for several years now, in the beginning as one of Shauna O'Brien's
"Women of the Web" and then with her own official site.
We'll start with what we didn't like. Of course we were a little disappointed that Julie is just doing the solo glam thing. There
is some kink (bondage especially), but no hardcore
action (boy-girl or lesbian) or toy play. This was only a little
disappointing because we knew there wasn't going to be
anything nasty. Basically this is a small step up from Playboy. While
Julie has done some hardcore video in the past, it seems she's cleaned
up her act. Sigh.
The big disappointment though was the lack of video. Julie has done a lot of
television and movies, but apparently doesn't have the right to show any
of it. What you get are only a half-dozen QuickTime movies that are
quite short, of poor quality, and not really worth watching anyway. If
you're looking for video of Julie, exclusive or otherwise, this just
isn't the place.
So what you are left with are the galleries. These tend to be quite
distinctive, as Julie has worked with a number of photographers with
very different personal styles. Jim Martin (of Bondage
by Request), Jon Rutkowski,
and Tony Weltzin are all well represented. The majority of the earlier sets were
shot by
Julie Strain. These tend to be even more "artistic", with lots of black and
white work and some odd stylistic tics (funny angles, the odd blurry
shot). Like most glam, all of the pics emphasize tease rather than sleaze,
so if you're just looking for close-ups of Julie's pussy, you won't find
much.
Updates are very irregular (none in a month when we joined) and usually quite small. The average
photoset only contains around 20 pics. Extras? You get a few puzzles
(really, does anyone ever do these?), a discussion/message board, and
the usual Girlfriends section featuring sets of other softcore models.
The navigation is kind of odd, with Julie's galleries running down the
left and right side of the page and new stuff linked in the middle.
Another strange thing was the artistically designed thumbnail sheets
that don't always include all of the pictures in a set. Price isn't too bad, but the absence of a trial rate is
annoying, especially given the lack of regular updates.
