Mike South is an adult filmmaker and self-professed Southern gentleman.
For several years now he has been running one of the best porn
news/opinion site on the Internet, mixing humour with some sharp
editorial commentary. This news and comment part of the Web-site is
free, so even if you don't decide to become a paying member, you might
still want to bookmark it.
If you do decide to get a membership there is a lot more of the same
inside. This is a very informal and personal site. The emphasis is on
amateur action. If you're looking for big name porn stars you won't find
many of them here (though we did see Devon
Michaels in one recent lesbian shoot).
Perhaps the best stuff is in the show and party galleries. These were
quite extensive and a lot of fun, with some surprisingly large and high
resolution photos of the girls just hanging out (with and without
clothes). The main model galleries are categorized by hair colour
(blondes, brunettes). At first we thought this seemed like a bad idea,
but given the fact that few of these women are names or will be familiar
at all, it works out in the end. A definite aid to navigation, though,
would be to have the downloadable video files all together in one place.
As it is they are found on the individual model pages (at least the
links to those models with video should be so designated).
Since Mike makes movies you're probably wondering if this is a real
heavy video site, or just a front for a store selling Mike South
product. Actually, the answer is neither. His videos are available to
watch as pay-per-view in streaming format from AEBN. This is
disappointing. However, there are also downloadable video files on the
site that are of quite high resolution if necessarily a little brief
(the ones we watched were under 10 megs and around two minutes in
length). It was hard to get a read on how often updates are occurring,
but there seem to be additions at least once a week. The
videos also appear to be coming more frequently now, which is good
because there aren't a lot of them yet.
Our overall impression was mixed. The site design is very basic and
simple, though (for the reasons given), not always easy to find your way
around in. The photo quality is generally high (he has recently moved to
a standard 1024x768 size), though there were a few of what appeared to
be blown up vidcaps from his movies mixed in. The photos also seemed
somewhat amateurish in their staging. There are no high production
qualities anywhere in sight here. The main sets appear to be hotel rooms
and the galleries, though extensive, have a lot of near duplicate shots.
In addition, the models are only average amateurs. The content itself isn't
freaky, extreme or fetish but pretty much sticks to the standard solo
posing and boy-girl stuff. There is some emphasis on cumshots and
facials.
There are a lot of good things here, especially if you're into the
amateur scene. Mike seems to be running a very hands-on site, answering
his own e-mail promptly, asking for input, and hosting special member
participation events. What is needed is more content, especially in the
area of downloadable video. The price, especially given the absence of a
trial rate and the site's nature, is also a little on the high side.
