| Review:
Nasty
Cinema
is a
really
good
site
. .
.
with
one
big
caveat.
Which
we'll
get
to
later.
But
let's
start
off
with
what
we
liked. Basically
this
is
yet
another
video
site
where
you
get
to
download
a
large
selection
of
DVDs
for
one
membership.
At
the
time
of
our
visit
they
were
up
to
134
DVDs
and
were
adding
at
least
one
new
title
a
week
(a
new
scene
is
added
every
day).
There's
non
DRM,
so
you
get
to
keep
everything
you
download.
You
can
grab
full
scenes
(not
full
DVDs),
or
choose
from
a
selection
of
shorter
clips
(around
1-2
minutes
each).
These
all
come
in
three
formats:
wmv
high
quality,
mpeg,
or
wmv
low
quality
(which
is
something
those
of
you
on
dial-up
should
take
note
of:
this
site
is
very
modem
friendly).
Here's
the
breakdown
on
their
specs
as
provided
by
them
(and
it
is
accurate):
"WMV
HQ"
is a
high
quality
Windows
Media
Video.
Video
size:
512x384,
bitrate:
1128
Kbps,
sound:
stereo
128 Kbps
"WMV
LQ"
is a
low
quality
Windows
Media
Video,
ideal
for
streaming
and dial-up
connection.
Video
size:
320x240,
bitrate:
200
Kbps,
sound:
stereo
20 Kbps
"MPEG"
is
the
most
common
implementations
of
the
MPEG-1
standard
supported
by almost
all
operation
systems.
Video
size:
320x240,
bitrate:
750
Kbps,
sound:
stereo
128
Kbps OK,
so
the
WMV
HQ
was
the
only
thing
we
grabbed,
and
the
movies
here
were
very
nice.
At
least
the
equal
of
most
other
video
download
sites,
and
better
than
some.
And
that's
pretty
much
all
the
site
has
to
offer.
In
terms
of
navigation
it's
pretty
good.
Our
major
gripes
were
that
there
wasn't
any
cross-linking
among
different
titles
in
the
same
series,
and
that
we
couldn't
search
by
performer.
Indeed,
in
the
critical
comments
that
come
with
the
DVDs
(and
which
are
generally
quite
helpful)
we
found
the
performers
were
rarely
named.
In
addition,
the
search
function
itself
isn't
a
true
search
but
only
returns
results
on
the
basis
of
pre-coded
key
words.
So
this
wasn't
terrific.
And,
finally
by
way
of
criticism,
we
found
that
the
otherwise
excellent
thumbnailing
didn't
always
perfectly
correspond
with
the
scenes
we
were
downloading.
But
searching
and
thumbnailing
are
fairly
minor
complaints.
Overall
this
is a
great
site
that
lets
you
download
plenty
of
high
quality
DVDs. Now,
here's
the
caveat:
The
competition.
Unfortunately,
there
are
a
lot
of
video
download
sites
out
there
now.
And
some
of
them
are
very,
very
good.
Put
simply,
as
good
as
this
site
is,
it's
nowhere
near
as
good
as VideoBox,
which
has
almost
ten
times
as
many
movies,
is
updating
more
often,
has
higher
quality
downloads,
an
even
smoother
interface,
and
comes
at
half
the
price.
It
also
has
much
less
selection
than
other
players
in
this
market,
like
DVD
Box
and Videosz.
And
that's
the
rub:
This
is a
great
site
judged
on
its
own,
but
is
not
as
good
as
the
leading
competition.
It
did
have
some
titles
we
didn't
find
on
the
other
sites,
so
you
should
check
out
what's
available
and
see
if
there's
something
you
like
that
you
missed
over
at
VideoBox.
Maybe
it's
not
fair
comparing
it
to a
site
as
good
as
VideoBox,
because
no
other
site
is,
but
that's
the
market.
We
can
give
it a
high
score,
because
we
really
did
enjoy
it,
but
at
the
same
time
we
wouldn't
recommend
it
as
our
first
or
even
second
choice
for
DVD
downloads. |
