| Review:
OK,
another
erotic
photog
site
from
the
New
Nude
people.
What's
the
difference
with
this
one?
For
starters
it's
not
European.
New
Nude
City
is
New
York
City,
home
of
wandering
ladies
man
Richard
Kern.
That
might
not
impress
you
as
terribly
significant
(a
loft
in
NYC
probably
looks
the
same
as a
loft
in
Prague),
but
the
thing
is
this
site
really
does
try
to
achieve
a
sense
of
place.
The
site
is
even
set
up
so
you
browse
by
different
boroughs
(Soho,
Greenwich,
Spanish
Harlem,
Times
Square).
Now
we
have
to
say
that
this
is
pretty
neat,
but
we're
not
sure
if
it
really
works.
Does
each
of
these
different
districts
have
its
own
erotic
identity?
Sure,
he
can
say
that
Times
Square
"is
where
you'll
find
teenage
runaways
casting
off
their
gear
and
heading
for
the
first
topless
joint
they
can
find"
while
the
Upper
East
Side
is
"where
those
silky
limbed
debutantes
get
down
and
dirty,"
but
when
we
looked
at
the
models
in
these
different
sections
they
looked
pretty
much
the
same. In
other
words,
it's
just
a
clever
bit
of
design
work
that
doesn't
really
help
navigation
at
all
but
which
might
make
you
feel
at
home
if
you're
from
NYC. Now,
seeing
as
this
is a
photographer
site,
what
about
this
Richard
Kerns
guy
. .
. According
to
the
About
page
he's
a
bit
of
an
independent-media
rebel
type.
And
to
give
the
guy
credit,
he
does
have
a
very
distinctive
kitchen-sink
kind
of
aesthetic.
As
the
always
turgid
promo
copy
has
it:
"Richard
Kern's
photographs
have
a
sense
of
darkness
and
controversy
that
is
intimate
and
instantly
recognizable.
He
learned
his
skills
from
the
streets
and
it
is
punks,
runaways
and
street
girls
who
bring
an
edgy,
sensual
quality
to
his
work."
This
actually
isn't
too
far
from
the
mark.
The
pics
here
are
unlike
most
of
the
other
erotic
photography
sites
we've
seen.
There's
none
of
the
European
funshine
of
Hegre.
Kerns's
world
is
dark.
Dark
not
with
the
sharp
shadows
of Carre,
but
filled
with
murky
shadows
befitting
his
social
realist
photographic
manifesto
of
the
Lower
Depths.
It's
also
quite
"natural"
(yeah,
we
have
to
put
that
word
in
quotation
marks).
The
girls
are
nice
looking,
but
they
aren't
knockout
models
and
they
don't
glam
it
up
much
with
exotic
clothes
or
lots
of
make-up.
It
shares
some
of
the
rebel
darkness
of Erotique
Digitale,
but
without
the
gothic
weirdness.
If
anything,
the
photography
site
this
reminded
us
of
the
most
is Abby
Winters.
It's
got
an
amateur,
found
poetry,
girl
on
the
street
style
that
is
also
reflected
in
the
"voyeur"
angle
a
lot
of
the
text
takes. Other
comments
on
the
photography:
(a)
It's
softcore.
Very
softcore
actually.
Not
even
a
whole
lot
of
masturbation.
Some
girl-girl
sets
but
they
never
go
crazy
on
each
other.
So
don't
expect
anything
explicit.
(b)
There's
quite
a
lot
of
nylon/stocking
and
panty
stuff
going
on.
So
if
that's
your
fetish
you're
in
for
a
treat. Site
stats
are
pretty
good.
About
115
different
models.
The
counter
was
telling
us
there
were
19
176
pics
and
50
films
available
when
we
visited
(daily
pic
updates,
weekly
movies).
The
pics
come
in
two
sizes:
400x600
(which
is
really
kind
of
small
and
not
worth
it,
even
if
you're
on
dial-up)
and
900x1400.
Maybe
it
was
deliberate,
but
we
thought
the
pics
seemed
kind
of
grainy,
especially
at
the
larger
size.
Videos
come
in
three
formats:
Windows,
DivX
and
Mac.
These
were
about
what
you
would
expect
in a
photography
site:
really
basic
posing
taken
during
a
photoshoot.
Quality
with
the
DivX
stuff
was
respectable.
There
aren't
a
whole
lot
of
extras.
Of
course
there's
a
store
where
you
can
buy
one
of
his
books.
There's
also
a
really
interesting
Journal
page
with
some
random
thoughts
about
what's
going
on
and
a
few
extra
snaps
from
around
town,
but
this
only
seems
to
be
updating
once
every
couple
of
months.
We
wished
there
was
more. This
is a
solid
site,
and
whether
you
want
to
join
or
not
is
entirely
dependent
on
how
much
you're
into
Kerns.
As
always
with
the
New
Nude
people
there
is a
great
tour
that
lets
you
sample
what's
on
tap.
To
be
honest
we
didn't
find
it
all
that
sexy.
There's
something
just
a
little
too
plain
about
it,
as
though
it
doesn't
even
want
to
turn
you
on.
But
this
is a
subjective
judgment
and
we'd
just
as
soon
leave
that
call
up
to
you. |
