| Review:
SDW Scan is another example of a kind of site we like very much: a
photographer who takes it upon him (or her-) self to produce some
quality porn in these terrible, conformist times. The supporting cast?
Good-looking young amateurs. The format: high-res digital photography
with some videos of photoshoots thrown in. The action: usually solo
masturbation (lots of veggies here), though you'll also find some pairings.
This formula has been adopted and made into a roaring success with
such great sites as Abby Winters,
SimonScans and
Sapphic
Erotica. SDW Scan isn't up to the standards set by those sites (at
least not yet), but it is a promising start.
Site design is pretty basic, not very attractive, and seemed to be in
a state of development when we visited. It's still kind of rough. We really missed an
"About" page telling us something about the guy running the
site and what his vision of porn is. Elsewhere there are forum, calendar and
chat links, but the main course consists of pics and mpegs. These are
divided into solo and group sections. The group action (which is either
girl-girl or girl-boy) was fairly limited.
We counted 39 models. This isn't a whole lot, but there seemed to be
updates occurring every couple of days, which is a good sign. In
general, the pics tend to be of a model lying around the house. There
didn't seem to be much variety or experimentation in the posing or
settings. And while the pics are definitely big enough, we also found
them a little dark.
The movies are all in mpeg format and come in 30 second clips of
around 5 megs or 1 minute/10 meg files. This translates to very high
quality video that plays well full-screen. The action, whether solo
or couples, was quite natural and very hot. The camera work is above
average (though still too dark--we wonder if this house can be lit
properly). We liked not hearing cheesy
music in the background. Natural sounds only! Watching the movies we definitely thought that
this was the area of the site that needed to be expanded. We say this
not only because there need to be more movies, but because we really had
the sense that is where SDW's real talent lies. The pics are good, but
this guy really seems to be getting something special on film.
This is a professional site that still needs to grow a bit and do
something with the design. We didn't like the use of frames at all, especially for viewing
the pics (the thumbnails all load in a sidebar). The movies are good, but
as noted they can only be downloaded in short clips. High-speed users
wanting to download whole scenes may get frustrated.
