Born sometime in the (early) 1950s, "Legendary Porn Star
Slut Goddess" and "Mistress of Masturbatory Memories"
Vanessa del Rio is still smokin'. The Cuban-Puerto Rican babe has a
career that matches the history of porn--going back to lesbian scenes with
Seka! And while she has certainly been around the block a few
times, we were impressed with the shape and attitude she has maintained
going into the new millennium. All hail the goddess!
Now on to the review.
We were disappointed with the quality of most of the material. Some
of this, to be sure, was expected. The last porn movie Vanessa made was
apparently done in 1986, so most of the movie clips (and there aren't
very many)
are for aficionados of retro, Golden Age stuff. Picture
quality and production values are poor. Her newer Cumra clips are
better, but when we checked there were only four "Mpegs"
(actually RealPlayer files) available for download.
The older pics are also pretty dismal, often only being scans of
layouts from ancient magazines. Again, this was pretty much what we
expected. What was more disappointing was the generally lousy appearance
of the new photo sets. The pics are not very big or very professionally
produced, and Vanessa's hardcore days seem to be a thing of the past.
Site design is bad. The navigation is complex to the point of being
almost impossible to find your way around. In addition, there is an irritating
overuse of wipes and dissolves when you move between pages, which only
increases the feeling of chaos. Add to all this the amount of marketing
thrown at you (the site is operated under the umbrella "Vanessa del
Rio Collectibles") and you have the sense of an Amateur Night on
the Internet gone wild.
So what did we like about the site?
First of all the attitude. Vanessa has an aggressive sexuality that
can make even the dreariest material come to life. Then there is the
variety. Except for the absence of boy-girl hardcore, this woman is still into
trying just about anything: Piercings, pee pics, bondage, midgets, even
sucking milk from a cow! While we didn't think the quality of
these pics was very good, there are a lot of them and Vanessa seemed to
be doing frequent updates. In addition, there are quite a few extras,
including a great "Adventures of Nasty Nessa" comic strip, stories
contributed by members, and chats. The bonus stuff is mostly just the
usual content filler, but special mention should be made of Vintage, an
e-zine which Vanessa
writes an advice column for. It is definitely worth checking out.
This is a hard site to summarize. Probably worth a look for fans, especially
given the variety of material and attitude on display. But the
presentation is low-budget and amateur.
