Vivid Video is such a big company, it would be amazing if their
Web-site was no good. Still, we were relieved they didn't blow it. At
least not completely.
To be sure, there is a lot of content here. The main index takes you to separate
pages for 46 different "Vivid Girls." These are some of the
biggest names in the business, past and present, and most are pretty
well represented. Each star has separate Softcore, Hardcore, and Video
pages. The video pages are the main draw, offering a whopping 333 titles
full-length streaming RealPlayer titles. We were impressed.
This is not, however, a complete archive of every Vivid movie ever
made. There are, just to take a couple of examples, only six Ashlyn Gere
titles and only four starring Jenna Jameson. There were a number of
movies we went looking for and couldn't find. We were also disappointed
in the exclusive use of streaming video. Nothing was available for
download. Again, unless you have a cable or DSL hook-up, you won't be
enjoying yourself much. And even if you do have a high-speed connection
you don't get to watch the movies fullscreen.
As noted, there are a ton of galleries, and finding what you want is
fairly easy given the site's simple (though at times redundant)
navigation. Unfortunately, the pics are of very poor quality and quite
small. Many will be familiar to fans, though real collectors will find
some stuff they've probably never seen before. Whether even collectors
will want to bother is another question.
Despite being a large, corporate site there were plenty of silly
little mistakes. Jenna Jameson's bio lists her as 5'11", which
isn't right by at least half a foot. And saying that a bio for Leslie
Glass is "coming soon" struck us as coming just a little late.
The extras are pretty good. Bonus content includes Earl Miller
galleries and JennaMaxxx along with all the usual crap. There are also a
number of male model/pornstar galleries for those interested in such
things.
There is a lot to enjoy at this site, especially for those interested
in re-watching some favourite stars and movies from a few years back
(which isn't to say the material isn't being kept fresh). The trial rate is also very attractive. Unfortunately, Vivid hasn't
really set itself apart from the rest of the studio and supersite field.
Like most other sites in this category it goes for quantity over
quality. With all of the talent and resources at their disposal, they
might have raised the bar.
